Description
Merton College's South and West Ranges in Mob Quadrangle were built between 1371 and 1378 using Elsfield and Bladon stone, with William Humbervyle as the mason. The library features a staircase from around 1600 in the southwest corner and another staircase from the late 18th century on the north side. The roof dates to 1503, and the fittings are from around 1600 to 1623. A vaulted passageway was added in 1378, and dormers were introduced around 1623. The building underwent restoration by Scott in 1870.
