Description
The walling, railings at the Sheldonian Theatre, and ornamental piers fronting Broad Street date from the 18th century and are part of a significant architectural group. The structure features an ashlar plinth and piers, along with wrought iron railings. Statues on the north exterior front facing Broad Street were replaced in 1868 with Milton Stone, and the steps were redesigned in 1949. The screen, particularly the 'Caesars', is currently undergoing restoration as of 1971. This site is grouped with Exeter College, The Old Ashmolean Building, The Sheldonian Theatre, and The Old Clarendon Building, along with The Indian Institute on Catte Street.
