Description
The Oxford Canal Tilting Bridge, located approximately 300 meters southeast of Duke's Cut, is a Grade II listed structure built in the late 18th century by James Brindley. This tilting canal bridge features a flat wooden deck supported by long raking counterweight beams. The accompanying embankment walls are constructed of brick with stone details, including brick copings that slope away from the bridge. Beneath the bridge, large rusticated stone blocks are integrated into the brickwork to serve as fenders. This type of bridge is unique to the Oxford Canal.
