Description
Duke's Cut Lock is a canal lock located on the Oxford Canal, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and stone, featuring wooden gates. The brick lock walls are complemented by stone kerbs, and there are two sets of gate recesses at the western end, suggesting an early lengthening or that it once accommodated reverse flow gates. A stone landing stage extends towards the towpath bridge. The lower gate and beam are made of wood, while the upper gate was renewed in 1978. The winch is housed in a gothic-arched cast-iron structure.
