Description
Manor Farmhouse, now a house, dates from the mid-17th century, with a datestone marking 1685, and was extended in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared marlstone, featuring some wooden lintels and ashlar dressings, with roofs made of Stonesfield slate, concrete plain tiles, and corrugated asbestos, along with brick stacks. The farmhouse has a 3-unit through-passage plan consisting of two builds plus an added rear wing, and it stands two storeys high with an attic.
The front has two bays to the left of a three-window arrangement, with the earlier bays featuring a two-storey late-17th century gabled porch on the right. This porch has a fine four-centre-arched moulded entrance below a three-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window, both adorned with labels. The inner doorway is arched with a plain chamfer and includes a contemporary ribbed door with a wooden latch. To the left of the porch, there are three-light transomed wooden windows on both floors, altered to accommodate wooden opening lights. Immediately to the left of the porch is a similar single-light window, likely inserted, while to the right are additional windows with three, two, and two lights at the ground floor; the first floor features a three-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window. The chamfered plinth does not continue on the right side of the porch and beyond. An oval date plaque on the later bay is inscribed "T.W./1685," likely referring to Thomas Welman. The steep-pitched roof has stacks on the left gable and to the right of the centre.
At the rear, there are further altered transomed windows along with ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows of two and three lights, which are now blocked by the 19th-century wing that extends from the right. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams. The 17th-century outbuilding, extending from the left, has trusses that cross at the apex and retains most of the loft floor.
