Description
Leys Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that has undergone some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from ironstone ashlar and features a steeply pitched roof covered with 20th-century tiles. The gables are stone-coped and have moulded kneelers. There are brick and renewed stone stacks at either end of the building. The farmhouse is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys plus an attic, with a five-window range.
The central entrance includes a plank door and a 20th-century porch, flanked by pairs of renewed 20th-century sash windows with glazing bars, all set beneath stone flat arches. The first floor has five similar windows. A moulded and coved stone eaves cornice runs along the top of the walls. At the rear, there is a wing.
Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace, moulded stone fireplaces with four-centred heads, part of a 17th-century staircase, and a purlin roof. The farmhouse was once occupied by the Knibb family.
