Description

The Tilting Bridge, located approximately 1.1 kilometers north of Nell Bridge Lock on the Oxford Canal, is a canal bridge from the late 18th century that has mostly been rebuilt in the 20th century. The wooden tilting bridge features inclined counterweight beams that date from the 20th century. The abutments, which splay outwards and diminish, have been reconstructed; the western abutment is made of concrete block, while the eastern abutment is built from blue brick. This tilting bridge was designed by James Brindley and is a notable feature along the Oxford Canal.
