Description
This pair of almshouses, built in 1859 by Elizabeth Bradford-Wyatt as a benefaction, is linked by a low wall. They are constructed from regularly coursed ironstone rubble with limestone dressings around the door and window openings. The buildings feature stone ridge stacks and 20th-century tile roofs, arranged in an L-plan with a single storey plus an attic. Notable architectural details include moulded limestone heads above the doorways, chamfered jambs, and plank doors. The almshouses have pairs and triplets of lancet windows with trefoiled heads, as well as gabled porches and dormers. An inscription on the right almshouse reads: "These almshouses were erected by Elizabeth Bradford-Wyatt in memory of her sister Mary Ann Scott-Wyatt. 1859." The almshouses were established in trust to provide housing for poor and aged agricultural workers. The interiors have not been inspected.
