Description
This listing describes a group of two chest tombs and a headstone located approximately 9 meters south and 8 meters south of the south transept of the Church of St. Mary in Adderbury. The tombs date from 1671, 1684, and 1697 and are made of marlstone. The chest tombs share a similar design featuring deeply-overhanging moulded covers, recessed corners, and fielded panels on all sides, with the long sides displaying one broad and two narrow panels. The inscriptions on the tombs are mostly illegible but include the dates 1684 and 1697. The low headstone has an arched recessed panel flanked by barleytwist pilasters, which support a broken triangular pediment that encloses an oval cartouche. The inscription on the headstone is also partly illegible but includes the date 1671.
