Description
Scullsgate Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with additions and alterations from the 18th or 19th century and around 1920. The front of the cottage is clad in red brick on the ground floor and tile hung above, topped with a tiled roof. It is two storeys high and features two windows on the front. The windows are 20th-century casements, and there is a central doorcase with a flat hood supported by brackets. The left side elevation has three casements and is also tile hung, with some windows containing old glass. There is an outshut on the right-hand side. Inside, the cottage has a 16th-century gunstock jowled post and a curved tension brace, along with a shutter groove. The original house was likely composed of three bays, with one additional bay added in the 18th century. There is an open fireplace with an 18th-century bressumer.
