Description
The Gibbon Monument, dated 1846, is located approximately 16 meters northeast of the chancel of the Old Church of St Peter in Pembury. This monument commemorates Robert Gibbon, M.D. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a slate plaque. The monument has a square section that tapers, with panelled sides, a moulded cornice, and a moulded base. It is topped with an urn draped in fabric, all resting on a two-step plinth. The lower step includes sockets for iron railings. The slate plaque, which is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, records Robert Gibbon's death in 1846. As of 1989, the plaque has fallen off and now leans against the monument.
