Description
Penhall Cottage and Tudor Cottage are a pair of houses that were likely built in the 15th century and extended in the 16th century. They feature a timber frame with some exposed close studding and plaster infill, while the ground floor is partially rendered on red brick. The roof is plain tiled. Originally, the structure was a three-bay Wealden hall house, which has been extended by one bay to the west.
The cottages are two storeys high and have a jetty on the left return. The hall bay is now located to the centre left, with the recess infilled, but it still retains large arched braces that support the eaves. The roof is hipped with gablets, and the ridge line steps up to the end of the right bay. There are stacks located at the centre left and at the end right in a catslide outshot.
On the first floor, there are three two-light wooden casements and a three-light window in the centre. The ground floor has two five-light casements on the left and two two-light glazing bar sashes on the right. A 20th-century rib and stud door is situated to the centre left in a raking porch, while a boarded door is located at the rear right. There is also a catslide outshot at the rear.
