Description
The stable block, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, is located about 25 metres east of The Chequers Inn and is attached to a wall. It is constructed from red and blue chequered brick, partly in irregular English bond, and features weatherboarded gables and plain tiled roofs. The building consists of two parallel ranges, with the front range facing The Chequers Inn being the later addition. This front range is a single storey with a hipped roof, and it has blocked semi-circular openings with gauged surrounds on either side of a central boarded door that includes a rectangular fanlight. The rear range has a gabled roof with timber coursing pieces and two shuttered openings. Attached to the north of the stable block is a red brick wall, approximately 6 feet high, which has a central gateway flanked by piers and extends about 50 metres to the east of The Chequers Inn, forming the northern boundary of the Inn yard and public car park.
