Description

The Woodward headstone, dated 1731, is located approximately 1.5 metres north of the chancel of the Old Church of St Peter in Pembury. This headstone commemorates the Reverend Richard Woodward and is made of sandstone, standing about 750 millimetres high. It features a curvilinear shaped head with a recessed front framed by a moulded border. The head displays an hourglass motif over crossbones, surrounded by leafy scrolled decoration. The inscription, presented in neat Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, notes the death of Richard Woodward in 1731.
