Description

This barn, located approximately 6 metres northeast of Old Bullingstone, is likely to have originally served as stables and dates from the 19th century. It features exposed timber-framing set on coursed sandstone footings, with part of the structure thatched and part covered with a peg-tile roof.

The barn is arranged as a range of former agricultural buildings facing southwest towards Little Laverall. It consists of a long, low building with a two-storey section at the left end. The low block has four bays, with a plank door situated to the right of centre and three long, narrow horizontal windows that contain rectangular panes of leaded glass. The taller left block has a doorway at its left end, flanked by similar windows that include glazing bars. The thatched roof is gable-ended and rises up to the tile-roofed section on the left. The timber frame features relatively narrow scantling, primarily straight braces, although a large curving tension brace at the right end suggests that the building may have older origins. The barn is positioned against the lane, with the bank revetted using coursed sandstone.

Inside, the barn displays plain 19th-century carpentry details. This building is part of a group that includes the nearby Old Bullingstone, The Cottage, and Holly Cottage.
