SPELDHURST BULLINGSTONE LANE Barn approximately 6 metres north east of Old Bullingstone
(Formerly listed as Barn approx 6m north east of Little Laverall)
17.8.87
GV II
Barn, probably stables originally. C19. Exposed timber-framing on coursed sandstone footings, part is thatched, part has a peg-tile roof.
Plan: Range of former agricultural buildings facing south West towards Little Laverall (q.v.). Long low building to right with two-storey section at the left end.
Exterior: The low block is four bays with a plank door right of centre and three long but narrow horizontal windows containing rectangular panes of leaded glass. Doorway in left end of the taller left block flanked by similar windows but these have glazing bars. Thatch roof is gable-ended rising up to the tile-roofed left block. Timbers of the frame of relatively narrow scantling and include mostly straight braces but a large curving tension brace at the right end may indicate older origins for the building. The building backs onto the lane and the bank is revetted with coursed sandstone.
Interior: Has plain C19 carpentry detail.
This building forms part of a group with nearby Old Bullingstone (q.v.) and The Cottage and Holly Cottage (q.v.).
