Description

The Chapman headstone, located approximately 8 meters south of the nave of the Old Church of St Peter, is a headstone dated 1760 in memory of John Chapman. It is an upright sandstone slab, standing about 1.6 meters high. The shaped head of the stone features a detailed carving depicting the Flight into Egypt. The inscription begins with Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of John Chapman in 1760.
