Description

The Cascade is an ornamental surround to a waterfall, dated 1810 and featuring the initials G T H F, which stand for George Talbot Hartley Forte. It incorporates medieval fragments from St Mary's Abbey and was restored in the 20th century. The structure is built of coursed stone rubble and has a canted shape with a stepped parapet. In the center, there is a pointed stone arch with a drip mould, above which is a blank round-headed arch that contains the datestone, flanked by blank round-headed arches on either side. The cascade itself is located in the center, topped with a metal grille.
