Description

Walls, steps, and four statues on pedestals. These features date to the early 20th century and were likely built at the same time as the remodelling of Nizels House. They are constructed from brick and stone, with stone steps and statues.

The formal, square Buddha garden sits directly in front of, and to the east of, the main block of Nizels House, placed on a terrace overlooking more open garden land. A flight of steps leads down from the Buddha garden to a lower level. The garden contains clipped yews and rose bushes. A statue formerly stood in the centre but was stolen. The retaining walls of the terrace are constructed from stone rubble with low brick walls above the garden, curving down on the east, north, and south sides. Four stone pedestals are positioned within the garden, one on each side, each with a small Buddha statue facing the centre of the garden.

The Buddha garden contributes significantly to the setting of Nizels House and is part of an Edwardian garden combining formal and informal elements.
