Description
The East Peckham War Memorial is a First World War memorial, with names of those who fell in the Second World War added later. It is made of limestone and is located in front of the west end of the Church of the Holy Trinity. The memorial features a wheel cross on a two-tier plinth, which is set on a two-tier base. The front face of the cross and the shaft are adorned with carved Celtic knot-work designs. An incised inscription on the front face of the shaft reads: "TO THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN MEMORY/ OF/ THE MEN OF/ THIS PARISH/ WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT/ WAR/ 1914-1918." On the rear of the shaft, there is an additional inscription that states: "AND/ OF THOSE/ WHO FELL/ IN THE WORLD/ WAR/ 1939-1945." The names of 47 individuals who fell in the First World War are inscribed on the front face of the plinth, while the names of 11 individuals from the Second World War, along with their ranks, are inscribed on the rear face.
