Description
Nos 6 to 11 on Church Street are almshouses originally founded in 1648 but rebuilt on the same site in 1847 in a cottage Gothic style. The main front faces north over the Churchyard and is constructed of rough ashlar with faced stone quoins. The building features a single-storey central section with two windows, two doorways, and a central gable, flanked by two projecting wings that are two storeys high, each with one window and gables above. The roof is tiled, and there are octagonal white brick chimneys on stone bases. The windows and doorways are framed with stone architraves, and the casement windows have lozenge-shaped panes. The central gable includes a stone that records the date of the rebuilding of the almshouses. The east front, which faces the street, is similar to the Churchyard front but lacks a central gable. Nos 1 to 11 form a group with the outbuilding opposite The Rose and Crown Tap on High Street.
