Description

The Port Reeve's House is a notable example of a 15th-century timber-framed house that has been restored after suffering damage during the war. It is situated on a raised bank, with a sandstone front facing the pavement. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring four windows with plaster infilling. The first floor overhangs, supported by a moulded bressummer and brackets, and is adorned with two wide curved braces. Above this overhanging section, there is a gable that also rests on a moulded bressummer and brackets, complete with moulded bargeboards and an attic window. A small gabled dormer is located on the west side. The roof is tiled.

On both the ground and first floors beneath the gable, there are oriel windows that project on brackets, each containing five lights with wooden mullions and a transom. There are also small windows with two lights on either side of these oriel windows, while the remaining windows are modern. At the east end of the house, there is a large chimney breast made of red brick and sandstone, topped with a brick stack, and a smaller fully brick chimney is located at the west end.
