Description

The gatehouse to the cemetery, located about 50 metres south of the Cemetery Chapel, was designed by G.G. Scott in 1872. It is constructed of flint with dressed stone and features timber framing in the gables, brick interior walls, and a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three offset moulded buttresses and moulded brick stacks on the left end and the front right. A hipped dormer is present, along with paired two-light arched windows on the left side of the first floor, a single two-light window below, and two single cusped lights on the right side of the first floor. The central carriage arch has wave mouldings and cast iron gates, with a pedestrian arch to the right that includes a plank and stud door with a grill.

To the left, there is a single-storey hipped L-shaped outbuilding. The interior features brick passageways, plastered ceilings, and granite set flooring. The rear elevation includes two two-light windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the right, with irregular openings elsewhere. There is a brick external stair with an iron handrail leading to an arched plank and stud door on the left return, and another plank and stud door to the right in the outbuilding. The entrance front is flanked by lengths of wall made of flint capped with brick, approximately 7 feet high, extending about 10 metres to the left and returning forward 15 metres to a pier, and similarly extending 10 metres and projecting 10 metres to a pier on the right.
