Description

Coastguard Cottages, dating from 1865, are red brick with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. They are situated on Victoria Parade, Ramsgate, as part of a courtyard complex. The cottages are two storeys and an attic, built on a plinth with a cill band, string course, and quoins to the parapet. There are three gabled projections with ball finials and four chimneys arranged from left to right. The windows are mullioned and set within stone surrounds; they are paired on the projecting sections, and mullioned and transomed on the ground floor. Two projecting porches with boarded doors are located on the return sides, while a recessed porch is found in the left wing’s projecting gable. The building reflects the style of the adjacent block at Nos. 1a to 2 (listed separately) though is not perfectly symmetrical with it.
