Description
The site includes a gate house and attached walls, built in 1794 by Boncey of Margate for Benjamen Bond Hopkins. The gate house is constructed of stuccoed material, designed in a Gothick style. It is two storeys high, with a plinth, moulded string courses, and battlements. Two machicolated stacks are present on the left side. The first floor features a single, two-light Gothick sash window with a label hood. The ground floor has single lights on either side of a 20th-century crazy-paved porch, which has a panelled and studded door and an ogee-domed roof. There are two Gothick sash windows on each floor to the returns, and blank and sashed windows to the rear. A brick wall, approximately 7 feet high, extends to the left, connecting to the gate of a quadrant wall. Further historical details can be found in reference 1/231.
