Description
Archway House is an early to mid 19th century building located on Harbour Street in Broadstairs. It stands three storeys tall and is cement rendered. The second floor features four sash windows with intact glazing bars, while the first floor has one blank window. The ground floor includes a left side cambered archway with a keystone. There is a one-storey extension on the ground floor that is castellated, featuring four pointed-headed windows and a pointed-headed door. The doorcase beneath the archway is adorned with a cornice, pilasters, rosettes in the frieze, a rectangular fanlight, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door. Access to the building is via four steps leading to the street. Notably, Charles Dickens stayed here in 184 and wrote part of "Barnaby Rudge." Archway House is part of a group that includes Nos 13 to 19 (odd) and Flint House.
