Description
This barn, located about 30 metres southeast of Sevenscore House, dates back to the 16th century. It is constructed of red brick with a timber-framed interior and features a thatched roof. The barn has a flint and brick plinth, with a bonding pattern of alternating stretcher and header courses, and the end walls include ventilation slits. The roof is half-hipped, with a hipped brick mid-strey that now connects to a 20th-century storage building.
Inside, the barn has six bays with aisles, and the two bays at the east end have passing shores. It includes two side purlins that are tenoned into the principal rafters, with the upper purlin clasped and supported by curved diagonal struts to the principals. There are signs of reconstruction, including rebuilt external aisle walls and timbers of varying quality, with slight constructional differences in each bay. It is believed that this barn was reconstructed from one that was dismantled at Minster Abbey, where a few bays of a barn with identical construction still remain.
