Description
The entrance piers, gates, and wall to Westwood Lodge were built around 1865 in a Gothic style, possibly designed by architect Henry Winnock Hayward.
The materials used include ashlar and knapped flint for the piers and walls, with iron gates. The entrance features a curved wall with attached gate piers and gates, along with an additional single pier to the southwest.
There are two square piers made of knapped flint, featuring ashlar quoins and topped with pyramidal caps that are carved with the name of the house, Westwood. Above these, under a curved hood, is the coat of arms and shield of the Herepath family, which includes the motto "VERITATIS ET INGENII VIRIBUS" (by the strength of truth and talent). The gate piers are connected by cast iron vehicular gates that have decorative scrollwork. Next to this is a low curved wall made of knapped flint with ashlar coping and signs of iron railings. Further southeast, marking the end of the curve, is another single pier of knapped flint with ashlar quoins and a pyramidal ashlar cap.
