ST PETER'S ROAD (South West Side) Draper's Almshouses (or Yoakley's Almhouses)

Almshouses forming 3 sides of a courtyard, The old part is the north east wing. Built C18 - there is a date in brick headers in the west gable of 1709. Ground floor and attic storey above. l0 windows and restored dormers. Knapped flints with red brick dressings, quoins and eaves cornice. Shaped Dutch gable of flints and bricks in the centre of the wing with a second and third storey and clock above surmounted by a wooden belvedere with bell. Casement windows. Doorcases with rectangular fanlights and 4 panel moulded doors. 2 C19 bay windows added to the centre building beneath the gable. On the north side of the wing facing the road are 6 little transversal wings ending in shaped Dutch gables, added In 1852. The North West and South East wings of the courtyard were built in 1848 and 1850 respectively and lengthened in 1881 and 1882 respectively. They are similar to the old wing with a Dutch gable in the centre but have gabled dormers and Gothicised (Tudor) windows.
