Description
Newbury Farm House North is a hall house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates back to around 1300 and the 17th century. The building features a stone solar wing attached to a timber-framed range, which is clad in red brick and rendered, topped with a plain tiled roof. The aisled hall range consists of three bays and includes a projecting stone cross wing.
On the south front, the house has two storeys and a hipped roof with a stack that projects from the left end. The first floor has three glazing bar sash windows, while the ground floor features four wooden casements and a boarded door located to the centre right, which is sheltered by a flat hood.
The rear range also has two storeys and a hipped roof, with stacks at the left end and centre right, as well as one gabled dormer. Each floor has three wooden casements, and there is a boarded door on the centre left.
Inside, the rear wing was originally an aisled hall of two bays from around 1300, with partial remains of two octagonal arcades featuring broach stops. The roof has coupled rafters with passing braces that connect to the arcade posts. The solar wing includes flint and freestone dressings and was originally designed with an undercroft, featuring the jambs of an external door on the first floor to the east.
