Description

This is a hall house dating from the 15th century, with additions made in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a plain tile roof. The house has a plinth and two storeys. The left and right end bays are jettied, with a flying wall plate over the recessed central section supported by heavy brackets. The roof is hipped, with gablets, and has stacks positioned at the rear centre, centre left, and on the projecting left end. Four tripartite sash windows are on the first floor, while the ground floor has one wood casement and three tripartite sash windows. A 20th-century window bay is located on the right end. A central panelled door provides access. The interior reveals that the right-hand jettied wing is a later addition to the original hall and cross-wing structure. Notable interior features include heavily cambered tie beams of substantial size, with hollow chamfer and roll mouldings, along with generally large timbers and heavily moulded mantel timbers. The building's name derives from Thomas Pope, who occupied the property in 1505.
