Description
Hartlip War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, with later Second World War inscriptions added. The memorial is constructed from rough-hewn granite, with stone block walling to the rear, and features applied lead lettering. The memorial plot is semi-circular, fronting onto The Street, with a curved back wall and a central granite cross mounted on a plinth and single-stepped base. A dedicatory inscription on the front of the cross base remembers the men of the parish who died in both World Wars (1914-1919 and 1939-1945). Behind the cross, set into a curved wall, are five memorial tablets, inscribed with the names of the fallen, their military service details including rank and regiment, and their age at death. The area between the cross and the wall is paved with granite setts.
