Description

This is a chest tomb for the Stone family, located about 5 metres south of the Church of St. Batholomew in Goodnestone. It dates from the early 19th century, with the earliest inscription commemorating George Stone, who died in 1810. The side panels feature horizontal fluting, as well as lozenge and trapezium panels. The tomb has fluted corner pilasters adorned with guilloche decoration, and the heads are moulded and fluted, decorated with rose motifs. A later 19th-century slab sits on top. Similar design elements can be found in other local churchyards.
