Description
The Church of St. Bartholomew in Goodnestone is a parish church dating back to the 12th century, with a north porch added in 1837 and restoration completed in 1876 at a cost of £400. The church features a flint construction and a plain tiled roof, comprising a chancel, a nave with a wooden bell turret, and a north porch. Notable architectural elements include a fine three-light 15th-century west window and lancet windows in the nave and chancel, along with other 15th-century Perpendicular windows.
Inside, the nave has a roof supported by two crown posts, and the chancel arch from the 14th century is chamfered into the responds. The chancel boasts a braced rafter roof. Significant fittings include a combined piscina and sedile in the chancel, a piscina in the nave, and a rood stair in the nave. There is also a tomb recess on the north wall of the chancel, featuring a cusped segmental arch and a panel with encircled quatrefoils. The glass in the east window, and possibly the west window, is attributed to Thomas Willement and is dated 1844.
