Description

The Windmill Public House is a public house that includes a former house and cottage row. It dates from the 18th century or earlier, was extended in the early 19th century, and partially altered in the mid-19th century. The building is rendered and has plain tiled roofs. It consists of two separate structures, each with its own character.

The right-hand section is the oldest part, featuring two storeys, a hipped roof, and chimney stacks located to the centre left and the end right. It has a sash window to the left, two glazing bar sashes on the first floor, and two sashes on the ground floor, with a central glazing bar sash and a multi-pane window to the right. The entrance door is six panels with a semi-circular headed surround. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot. The interior reportedly has large scantling ceiling beams. Originally a single house, it appears on the 1841 Tithe Map and was divided into three cottages by the 20th century before being incorporated into the public house in the mid to late 20th century.

The left-hand building is likely a purpose-built alehouse from the early 19th century, also two storeys with a double span roof and chimney stacks at the centre and the end left. It features two sashes on the first floor and three on the ground floor, along with a half-glazed door to the centre left. A property sale is recorded from 1824, and further details can be found in Faversham Papers no.19, which discusses inns and taverns of Faversham.
