Description

Borden Hall is a house dating from the 15th century with significant alterations in the 17th century. The structure is timber-framed, with exposed timber and plaster infill, and sections clad in chequered brick and plaster, all under a plain tiled roof. The house has a basement and two storeys, featuring a coved eaves cornice and stacks located centrally to the left and in a projecting end to the right. The front facade has eight windows arranged in three blocks. The left block is painted brick and plaster, with three wood-framed casement windows on each floor. The central block is chequered brick with two oversailing half-hipped gables, containing four wood-framed casement windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor, with gauged heads. A five-panelled door is located to the left, sheltered by a flat hood. The right block was originally jettied but has been underbuilt with red brick. It has an end jettied section with exposed close studding and plaster infill on the first floor, plus an oversailing hipped gable. There is one mullioned window on the first floor and a two-light segmental oriel window on the ground floor.
