Description

Downings is a hall house dating from the 16th century, with an 18th-century front. It is timber framed and clad with brown bricks, featuring red-brick dressings and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and includes a brick modillion eaves cornice and a parapet on its hipped roof, which has gablets and stacks positioned at the centre left and projecting end right. The windows are regularly arranged, consisting of four glazing bar sashes and a central Venetian window, all with gauged heads. On the ground floor, there are four glazing bar sashes and a centrally located glazed and panelled door set in a panelled surround, which leads to what has been a screens passage.
