Description

The building is a cartshed and adjoining shed, located about 80 metres southeast of Abbey Farmhouse, and is likely from the 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame and a hipped roof made of corrugated iron.

The structure has a rectangular plan with six bays. The three wider bays at the west end are open on the north front and west end, while the three narrower bays to the east are enclosed, with a doorway on the north side of the third bay from the east.

On the exterior, the north front has three open bays on the right, supported by curved braces, and is weatherboarded on the left with a doorway to the left of centre. The west end is open, while the east end and the rear (south) are weatherboarded and lack openings.

Inside, the close-studded timber frame remains intact, featuring curved braces in the open bays, tension braces in the closed bays, and jowled wall-posts. However, only a few of the curved braces to the tie-beams are still present. The roof consists of complete common rafters with straight morticed collars, clasped purlins, and a board at the ridge, with carpenter's assembly marks on the joints. The closed east end is believed to have functioned as a carpentry shop, although its original purpose is not definitively known. Despite some missing roof cladding, the structure is complete and serves as an interesting example of an 18th-century farm building.
