Description
The George Hotel is a historic building located on High Street in Sittingbourne. It dates back to at least 1562, originally functioning as the George Inn. The structure is primarily timber-framed and was refaced with stucco around 1786 when it became part of the taproom for the hotel. The building has two storeys and attics, topped with a steeply pitched tiled roof that features three gabled dormers. A cornice above the ground floor conceals the original bressumer. On the first floor, there are five sash windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes three 19th-century three-light sashes without glazing bars and two simple doorcases with rectangular fanlights. The George Hotel is part of a group that includes Nos 23 to 45 (odd) and 49 to 81 (odd).
