Description

Holmesdale House, originally Holmesdale Villa, is a pair of early 18th-century houses built as one dwelling. Each house is two storeys and has an attic, with five windows. They have hipped roofs, swept to the sides, covered in tiles, with four leaded dormers. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs around the building. The exterior is red brick with a horizontal band marking the first floor. Long, flush-framed sash windows have glazing bars, with nine panes per sash. The central front doors are six-panel doors with glazed upper sections, sheltered by pedimented hoods supported on brackets. One-storey additions are present at each end. The rear elevations feature irregular, four-gabled designs, suggesting an older timber-framed core. The buildings form a group with other properties on The Green.
