Description
The tomb to Isabella Perceval is located in the churchyard of All Souls Church and dates from around 1860. It is designed in the Gothic style and made of granite. The tomb features a larger moulded top slab with an elaborate carved cross, supported by six polished granite colonnettes. It rests on two granite steps, with the upper step inscribed: "Here lieth Isabella youngest daughter and / co-heir of the late Honourable Howard Perceval and of Sarah / his wife. She died unmarried / at Crofton Hall near Orpington February 20 1860 aged 79." The structure stands on a broad granite base with square section cast iron supports and a top rail set diagonally. Isabella Perceval was a generous benefactress to All Souls Church and the parish, and she was a half-niece of Spencer Perceval, the Prime Minister who was assassinated in 1812. This tomb is a good quality example of Gothic style and is significant as it groups well with All Souls Church and the lychgate.
