Description

54 and 55 Bayham Road are a pair of large semi-detached houses designed by J Leonard Williams in the Domestic Revival style. They feature roughcast walls with timber framing on the first floor and at the end gables, topped with a tiled roof that has six roughcast chimneystacks with brick tops. The houses are two storeys high and have a total of ten windows, with leaded light casements.

On the exterior, the center of each house has three-light casements on the first floor and multi-light casements with French windows on the ground floor. The ends have projecting gables with carved bargeboards, two three-light oriels on the first floor, and multi-light casements on the ground floor. The doorcases are located on the side elevations and feature flat hoods and hipped tiled hoods. At the rear, there are projecting gabled wings.

Inside No. 55, the front room includes a panelled overmantel, a bolection-moulded fireplace with a tiled surround, and the rear room has a moulded cornice around the fireplace and a similar tiled surround. The central room also features a tiled fireplace. The staircase and hall have a painted wooden dogleg staircase with square balusters and square newel posts, along with a fireplace and several plank doors. The interior of No. 54 has not been inspected but is likely to be similar to No. 55.
