Description
The Malt House is a composite building that has evolved over several periods. The left section seems to consist of two late medieval houses that intersect at right angles. It has one storey and an attic, featuring two windows. The roof is long and hipped, covered with tiles, and includes a ridge gablet on the left side, while the gable end of the taller part rises above the ridge on the right. There are two modern gabled dormers. The first floor is tile hung, the ground floor is made of brick, and there is a random rubble plinth. The windows include modern casements, with three leaded lights.
The long right range, likely from the early 17th century, displays visible timber framing with plaster filling on the first floor and a brick ground floor. It has a hipped tiled roof with a ridge stack. In the angle between these sections, there is a projecting range that appears to be from the 16th century, constructed with similar wall materials and featuring modern leaded casements. There are also back extensions from the 17th or early 18th century.
Inside, the building showcases exposed timber, a restored inglenook fireplace, and Queen Anne panelling in the hall.
