Description
Hall Place is a large mansion built between 1871 and 1872 by George Devey, designed in the Tudor style. The building features an irregular front facing the lakes, with a varied profile that includes two storeys and attics, numerous gable ends, and a prominent three-storey square tower with battlements. There are also projecting two-storey bays, some of which are battlemented or have balustrades. The structure is made of red brick adorned with a large pattern of blue headers, and it has slated roofs topped with tall brick stacks that have elaborate grouped shafts. Stone dressings accentuate the battlements and gable ends, while the windows are fitted with stone mullions and transoms. The doors are set beneath carved stone Tudor arches. The garden front maintains a similar style and features a five-storey balustraded square tower on the left. A courtyard at the south-west end is enclosed by curved walls.
Hall Place, along with the terrace walls and gates to the northwest, the terrace walls and steps to the northeast, the estate office and workshop block, the stable block, and the garden walls, forms a cohesive group.
