Description

Medway House is a large, late 18th-century building originally constructed as the Seven Stars Hotel. It is three storeys high with a basement, built of red brick. The building has a parapet with a pediment-shaped outline above the central bay, featuring a circular arrangement of ornamental bricks within the pediment’s tympanum. Stringcourses run above each floor. There are seven windows in total, including two curved bays of three windows each on all floors; the glazing bars remain intact. The central first-floor window is round-headed, while the central second-floor window is circular. Five semi-circular steps lead to the main doorway, which is sheltered by a deep round hood with an enriched frieze and dentilled cornice, above a rectangular fanlight and four-panel double doors. A modern, neo-Georgian style addition of two storeys and three windows has been added to the south. A further ground-floor addition of two windows is present to the north.
