Description

The Forge is a house and office building with a working forge at the rear, dating largely to the 17th century, although with a 19th-century facade. It is timber-framed with tarred weatherboarding to the majority of the front elevation and gable ends, and a central section of painted brick on the ground floor. The building is two storeys high with a cellar, and sits upon a brick plinth. It has a half-hipped roof, with multiple red and grey brick stacks towards the centre and a rear stack towards the right end. The windows are irregularly placed, with three small, widely-spaced two-light casements on the upper floor and three three-light casements on the ground floor. The front door consists of four fielded panels and two top lights, with a flat hood, and leads up three steps slightly to the right of the stack. A painted brick lean-to is attached to the left gable end. A later single-storey forge is situated at the rear to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
