Description
The Rider Mausoleum is a structure from the 18th century or early 19th century located on the east side of Church Hill in Boughton Monchelsea. It is built from long, thin blocks of evenly-coursed dressed stone, with rectangular walls that stand approximately 6 feet high. The mausoleum features a stone plinth and a tooled stone eaves band, topped with a domed dressed stone roof. There are bulls-eye windows on the east and west sides, each with a raised stone border and keystones. The south gable end has a ribbed door set in a rectangular doorway, which is framed by a raised tooled stone architrave. Above the doorway is a stone coat of arms. The mausoleum is situated in the north-east corner of the churchyard and is associated with the Rider family, who owned Boughton Monchelsea Place from around 1685 to 1938.
