Description
Keeper's Cottage is a house that was originally a gamekeeper's residence, dating back to the early 17th century, with a facade added around 1842 and later alterations and additions. The building is timber framed, with the ground floor constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and the first floor weatherboarded. It features a plain tile roof and consists of two timber-framed bays, which were re-faced in approximately 1842. The original right bay or bays were replaced by a single bay made of the same materials at a later date. The cottage is two storeys high, with a half-hipped roof that has jettied half hips. There is a brick stack rising from the eaves towards the left end, a rear stack to the right of centre, and a gable end stack to the right. The windows are irregularly placed, with two small single-light casements—one above the central panelled door and one to the right. A date of 1842 is marked on the brick beside the back door. Inside, the cottage features principal posts with shouldered gunstock jowls, a clasped purlin roof with large windbraces, diminishing principal rafters, and vertical queen-struts supporting the collars.
