Description

This is an early 18th-century barn located about 10 metres north of Crowplain Farmhouse. The barn was built at a right angle to the road and is timber-framed with weatherboarding and a thatched roof. It has five bays, a central midstrey, and a rear aisle. The roof is half-hipped. Full-height double doors are present on the south (front) side, with low double doors on the rear. Lean-tos are situated on either side of the front entrance.

Inside, the barn features cut jowls to the principal posts. Notably, there are unusual ogee soffits to the jowls of posts flanking the midstrey. Other interior details include arch-braced tie-beams, a collared staggered butt purlin roof, almost straight arch braces to the arcade plates, jowled aisle wall-posts, and straight wall bracing. Some rafters are re-used from a lapped-collar roof.
