Description

Ashley House is a house that dates from the 15th or early 16th century, with later additions and a facade from the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is timber framed, with the ground floor finished in painted brick and the first floor weatherboarded. It has a plain tile roof and features an open hall consisting of two timber-framed bays; the left bay is narrow, while the right end bay and the left end bay both have storeys. There is a later rear wing to the left and a mid-to-late 20th century bay to the right end, constructed with similar materials. The house is two storeys high with a hipped roof and includes a multiple brick stack on the left hall bay, as well as a ridge stack positioned between the storeyed right end bay and the right addition. The windows are arranged irregularly, with five casements: one two-light window to the left and one three-light window to the right of the left stack, plus three two-light windows to the right. The entrance features a panelled door with two top lights and a flat hood, located under the left stack. The two-storey rear wing to the left has higher eaves and transitions from a gabled to a hipped roof down to the main range. The interior has only been partially inspected, revealing exposed framing and a chamfered inserted axial beam in the right hall bay. There is also a plain brick fireplace with a cambered bressumer on the right side of the stack only.
