Description
Douglas Almshouses, located on Faversham Road, were built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of red brick, primarily in header bond, and feature a plain tile roof. The first floor has a small area of banded plain and fishscale tile-hanging to the right of the center. The building is positioned at right angles to the road, forming the south side of an unenclosed courtyard. It has two storeys with projecting eaves that have flat soffits. There are brick ridge stacks at each end of the row.
The fenestration is irregular, consisting of 11 windows: seven two-light horizontally-sliding sashes, three single-light casements, and one two-light casement. The ground-floor windows have segmental heads. There are two half-glazed doors with segmental heads leading to communal staircases, one at the left end and one off-center to the right beneath the tile-hanging. Between these doors is one blocked door and another towards the right end. Additionally, there is a mid-to-late 19th-century block parallel to the road at the east end. The interiors have not been inspected.
